Gospel Reading for April 17, 2024 – John 6: 35-40
FLABBERGASTED
Jesus said to the crowds, “I am the bread of life; whoever comes to me will never hunger, and whoever believes in me will never thirst. But I told you that although you have seen me, you do not believe. Everything that the Father gives me will come to me, and I will not reject anyone who comes to me, because I came down from heaven not to do my own will but the will of the one who sent me. And this is the will of the one who sent me, that I should not lose anything of what he gave me, but that I should raise it on the last day. For this is the will of my Father, that everyone who sees the Son and believes in him may have eternal life, and I shall raise him on the last day.”

God the Father is our Creator. Therefore, we all belong to him. The wily one tried his best to snatch us away from the Father. For a while, while God’s plan of salvation started to unfold, he thought he was successful. Who else would sow in the minds of the chief priests, the pharisees and scribes, anger against Jesus? Who else would sow greed in the mind of Judas to sell Jesus for 30 pieces of silver? Who else would weaken the resolve of the 10 apostles to remain faithful to Jesus up to the very end? The evil one looked to be successful when the Son of God had to go through so much pain and suffering, and suffer a very humiliating death on the cross, or so he thought. Imagine how he felt at the Resurrection of Jesus! He was surely
FLABBERGASTED!
All of God’s actions are the best that can ever be, because he is God. Who can win against him? He loves us so much that he is unwilling to lose even just one of us 8,118,835,999. He sent his own Son to make sure of this. How very blessed are we not to be doomed to eternal damnation. We are all destined to go back to him to whom we belong, but then, our choices in life have to be geared towards this destiny. We should remember to follow Jesus!
Father God, thank you for your immense love for us! Thank you for your Son, Jesus!
