Gospel Reading for May 30, 2025 – John 16: 20-23
FREE FROM GRIEF AND PAIN
Jesus said to his disciples: “Amen, amen, I say to you, you will weep and mourn, while the world rejoices; you will grieve, but your grief will become joy. When a woman is in labor, she is in anguish because her hour has arrived; but when she has given birth to a child, she no longer remembers the pain because of her joy that a child has been born into the world. So you also are now in anguish. But I will see you again, and your hearts will rejoice, and no one will take your joy away from you. On that day you will not question me about anything. Amen, amen, I say to you, whatever you ask the Father in my name he will give you.”

There are those of us who think it is unfair that those who did us wrong or committed an injustice against us are not being punished and are even living luxuriously/comfortably and enjoying life. Why should they be rejoicing while we are grieving? If we think this way, our grief will even become worse. What we should be looking forward to, is not their day of retribution but the day when our grief will become joy, and this would be the day when we have learned to forgive from the heart, so we are set FREE FROM GRIEF AND PAIN. The joy that will come from this, no one can take away from us.
It is not easy, but whatever we ask the Father in Jesus’ name, we will receive. The Father will be just too glad to give us all the graces to be FREE FROM GRIEF AND PAIN.
Lord Jesus, help us to always remember when you were on the cross, when despite your great pain, the ingratitude of people for the good things you did for them, and the abandonment by your disciples, you said: “Father, forgive them for they know not what they do.”
