Gospel Reading for March 12, 2025 – Luke 11: 29-32
INTROSPECTION
While still more people gathered in the crowd, Jesus said to them, “This generation is an evil generation; it seeks a sign, but no sign will be given it, except the sign of Jonah. Just as Jonah became a sign to the Ninevites, so will the Son of Man be to this generation.
At the judgment the queen of the south will rise with the men of this generation and she will condemn them, because she came from the ends of the earth to hear the wisdom of Solomon, and there is something greater than Solomon here. At the judgment the men of Nineveh will arise with this generation and condemn it, because at the preaching of Jonah they repented, and there is something greater than Jonah here.”

Jesus was talking about the generation he was born into. Are we better, or are we worse? We should be better because there were no Christians during his time. We came after him, as we are his followers that’s why we are called Christians. But, are we really his followers?
When we examine ourselves and look at our lives, what do we see? Do we see ourselves following Jesus as the people of his time did? Do we see ourselves listening intently to what he was teaching? Or, do we just see what we do in Church as mere rituals and live DICHOTOMOUS LIVES?
The Jews were seeking for signs if they were to follow and believe in Jesus. Do we need signs too in order to follow and believe?
This season of Lent, let us give ourselves a lot of time for INTROSPECTION. This is the season to cleanse ourselves of everything that is not good in and for us. This is the season to renew our faith. This is the season to be more thoughtful of the people in need around us. Christmas is usually the season for giving to those close to us – family, friends and relatives. Lent is the season for giving love to those who are closest to Jesus’ heart – the destitute, the homeless, including public sinners.
Lord Jesus, stir in our hearts the compassion you desire!
