Pinangangambahan ng International Labor Organization (ILO) ang patuloy na pagtaas ng global unemployment rate ngayong 2024.
Ayon sa mga pag-aaral ng ILO, dahil sa ibat-ibang suliranin ay maaring tumaas sa 5.2% ang datos ng unemployment na mas mataas mula sa naunang 5.1% noong 2023.
Inaasahan ng ILO ang pagdami ng mga maghahanap ng trabaho ngayong taon na sasabayan ng kaunting job opportunities.
“The workforce challenges it detects pose a threat to both individual livelihoods and businesses and it is essential that we tackle them effectively and fast. Falling living standards and weak productivity combined with persistent inflation create the conditions for greater inequality and undermine efforts to achieve social justice. And without greater social justice we will never have a sustainable recovery,” ayon sa mensahe ni ILO Director-General Gilbert Houngbo na ipinadala ILO sa Radio Veritas.
Tinukoy din ng ahensya na mananatiling mababa ang suweldong matatanggap ng mga manggagawa sa mga ‘low-income countries’.
“This report looks behind the headline labour market figures and what it reveals must give great cause for concern. It is starting to look as if these imbalances are not simply part of pandemic recovery but structural,” ayon pa sa mensahe ni Houngbo.
Patuloy naman ang Church People Workers Solidarity sa pakikiisa sa sektor ng mga manggagawa sa Pilipinas upang mapalakas ang kanilang mga apela hinggil sa pagtataas ng suweldo at iba pang benepisyo.
