Gospel Reading for May 11, 2025 – John 10: 27-30
SO MUCH WORTH OUR WHILE
Jesus said: “My sheep hear my voice; I know them, and they follow me. I give them eternal life, and they shall never perish. No one can take them out of my hand. My Father, who has given them to me, is greater than all, and no one can take them out of the Father’s hand. The Father and I are one.”

During Jesus’ time, several shepherds would use a common corral, where they would bring their sheep in the evening for protection. When the corral is opened in the morning, the shepherds, with different voices, would call their sheep, and only those that recognize the voice would follow the shepherd who calls. The others, who do not recognize the voice would not follow.
If we are really the sheep of Shepherd Jesus, we will always recognize his voice and follow him. And, as he is the Good Shepherd (John 10: 11-18), when we follow him faithfully, we will always be protected from the evil one. We cannot go astray in life and we will never perish because he will give us eternal life. The evil one cannot have more power than God, so he cannot take us out of his hand, moreso, out of the Father’s hand.
If we think it is laborious to follow Jesus, think of this. It is SO MUCH WORTH OUR WHILE!
Lord Jesus, may we benefit from your sacrifice and resurrection!
