Gospel Reading for October 21, 2025 – Luke 12: 35-38
VIGILANT
Jesus said to his disciples: “Gird your loins and light your lamps and be like servants who await their master’s return from a wedding, ready to open immediately when he comes and knocks. Blessed are those servants whom the master finds vigilant on his arrival. Amen, I say to you, he will gird himself, have them recline at table, and proceed to wait on them. And should he come in the second or third watch and find them prepared in this way, blessed are those servants.”

To be VIGILANT is to be alert and watchful against potential dangers from bad people. For us Christians, there is only one source of danger – THE WILES OF THE DEVIL who uses deceitful tactics to tempt and confuse us so we may be led away from our faith in God and lose moral clarity. A classic example is making Euthanasia or Abortion a personal choice, giving as a reason that it is our body, and we can do anything we want with it. The problem with this is that it isn’t just about our body, but it is about LIFE, which only its giver has a right to take. It makes life so cheap and meaningless, removing the dignity that every human being has, being made in the image and likeness of the Creator. LIFE is not a commodity which can be traded for something else. It is SO VALUABLE and cannot be swapped for anything.
This is just one example as to how the devil deceives us and makes us believe that right according to Jesus is wrong, and wrong according to Jesus, is right. If we are steadfast in our faith in God; if we make ourselves well-versed in the teachings of Jesus; and if we make sure that we follow his teachings, with the help of the Holy Spirit, we will surely give the devil a very hard time!
