Homiliya para sa Martes sa Ika-25 Linggo ng Karaniwang Panahon, 22 Setyembre 2026, Lucas 8:19–21
Naranasan na ba ninyo na nakapila kayo, tapos biglang may sumingit? Sa English, ang tawag diyan ay jumping the line. Lalo pang sasama ang loob ninyo kung ang sumingit ay iyong taong feeling entitled, dahil malakas daw siya sa taong pinipilahan. Walang pakundangan sa mga nagpasensya at nagtiyagang pumila.
Parang ganiyan ang sitwasyon sa ating Ebanghelyo ngayon. Dumating ang nanay at mga kapatid ni Hesus habang abala siya sa pagtuturo sa maraming tao. Hindi sila makalapit dahil sa dami ng tao. Kaya may nagsabi sa kanya, “Nasa labas po ang inyong ina at mga kapatid. Gusto po nilang makipagkita sa inyo.”
Medyo kakaiba ang Ebanghelyong ito dahil parang hindi gaanong positibo ang paglalarawan sa pamilya ni Hesus.
Pero linawin muna natin: kapag sinabi ng Ebanghelyo na mga kapatid ni Hesus, hindi ito nangangahulugang may iba pang anak si Mama Mary. Ang salitang Griyego na adelphos ay maaaring tumukoy sa mas malawak na ugnayang pampamilya. Maaaring mga pinsan o iba pang malapit na kamag-anak. May tradisyon din na maaaring mga anak sila ni Jose sa una niyang asawa, kung siya ay nabiyudo bago naging asawa ni Maria. (May tradisyon pero walang matibay na batayan sa kasaysayan.)
Pero ang punto ng Ebanghelyo ay ito: dahil kamag-anak sila ni Hesus, parang inaasahan nilang bibigyan sila ng espesyal na pagtrato. Hindi lang sila sumisingit sa pila. Parang sinasabi pa nila, “Sabihin ninyo kay Hesus na lumabas siya at puntahan kami. Kamag-anak niya kami!”
Kaya maintindihan natin ang naging sagot ni Hesus: “Ang aking ina at mga kapatid ay yaong mga nakikinig sa salita ng Diyos at tumutupad nito.”
Hindi naman niya itinatakwil ang kanyang ina at mga kamag-anak. Ang ipinakikilala niya ay isang bagong uri ng pagkakamag-anak, isang bagong pamilya na ang pundasyon ay hindi lamang dugo kundi ang pagiging magkakapatid bilang mga anak ng Diyos.
At dito, walang puwedeng mag-claim ng special privilege dahil lamang sa relasyon niya sa Panginoon.
Hindi sapat na sabihin nating, “Katoliko ako. Binyagan ako. Nagsisimba ako. Malapit ako sa mga pari at obispo.” Hindi rin sapat na sabihing, “Marami akong kilalang madre at pari. May kamag-anak pa nga akong obispo!”
Ang tanong ng Panginoon ay hindi kung gaano karami ang kakilala mo sa Simbahan, kundi kung gaano mo isinasabuhay ang kanyang salita.
Kaya ang tunay na pagiging kapamilya ni Hesus ay hindi lamang nakasalig sa binyag, kundi sa pakikinig at pagtupad sa salita ng Diyos.
At sino ang pinakamagandang halimbawa nito? Walang iba kundi ang kanyang sariling ina, si Maria. Siya ang unang nakinig, naniwala, at tumupad sa salita ng Diyos nang sabihin niya, “Mangyari nawa sa akin ang ayon sa iyong salita.”
Ito lang ang punto: sa pamilya ng Diyos, hindi kailangang sumingit sa pila. Walang palakasan. Walang special treatment. Bukas ang kanyang puso sa lahat ng handang makinig at tumupad sa kanyang salita.
At ang magandang balita: tayong lahat ay inaanyayahan niyang maging tunay na mga kapatid at kapamilya niya.

Two things I ask of you, deny them not to me before I die: Put falsehood and lying far from me, give me neither poverty nor riches; provide me only with the food I need; lest, being full, I deny you, saying, “Who is the Lord?” Or, being in want, I steal, and profane the name of my God (Proverbs 30:7-9).
Teach me to be content with whatever there is for me, not desiring more than I need so that I remain open for you and your work, for you O Lord is more than enough; teach me to learn to stop in pursuing whatever I set my eyes or heart on when it is causing more harm than joy and wellness for it is only in following you enough is enough; teach me, Lord, to be like St. Padre Pio in leading a simple life, just praying, hoping and not worrying for you O Lord is more than enough. Amen.

PAR EXCELLENCE
Jesus summoned the Twelve and gave them power and authority over all demons and to cure diseases, and he sent them to proclaim the Kingdom of God and to heal the sick. He said to them, “Take nothing for the journey, neither walking stick, nor sack, nor food, nor money, and let no one take a second tunic. Whatever house you enter, stay there and leave from there. And as for those who do not welcome you, when you leave that town, shake the dust from your feet in testimony against them.”
Then they set out and went from village to village proclaiming the Good News and curing diseases everywhere.

Jesus was truly a teacher PAR EXCELLENCE. He did not just teach the disciples in theory; he sent them on practicum. But even more than that, he had already given them the gift and the authority to do what he himself was doing for the people.
For some teachers, theory may be enough. When the school year ends, the students can practice what they have learned. But what Jesus was doing was far more than teaching a lesson. He was entrusting the disciples with a mission. That is why he was so hands-on in preparing them.
Imagine if we were among the disciples of Jesus. How privileged they were to have the Son of God as their professor! Every “nook and cranny” was covered. He made sure they were fully prepared. He made sure that what the Father had planned for them would be accomplished.
As baptized Christians, we are all called to share our gifts in Christ’s salvific mission. It did not end with the apostles. It continues to this very day through us.
Lord Jesus, may the way we live our lives according to your teachings be our best teaching tool ever. Amen.
