Gospel Reading for May 07, 2025 – John 6: 35-40

ALL OF US ARE QUALIFIED

Jesus said to the crowds, “I am the bread of life; whoever comes to me will never hunger, and whoever believes in me will never thirst. But I told you that although you have seen me, you do not believe. Everything that the Father gives me will come to me, and I will not reject anyone who comes to me, because I came down from heaven not to do my own will but the will of the one who sent me. And this is the will of the one who sent me, that I should not lose anything of what he gave me, but that I should raise it on the last day. For this is the will of my Father, that everyone who sees the Son and believes in him may have eternal life, and I shall raise him on the last day.”

There are stores at the mall where their employees will be offering us free items, but when we do show interest to receive free items, they will start promoting their product, and convince you to buy it. There are those of us who do not show interest because we already know there is a catch. There is an ulterior motive.

With Jesus promoting himself as: “I am the bread of life; whoever comes to me will never hunger, and whoever believes in me will never thirst” there is no ulterior motive. What he says, is what we get. He does not promise us a life that is free of suffering and temptations. He promises us a life that gives meaning to suffering and blessed with enough graces to overcome temptations. He does not promise us that we will be perfect, but it will be a life that will aim for perfection in all aspects because our destiny is ETERNAL PERFECTION.

What is so good is that ALL OF US ARE QUALIFIED to be his followers. Jesus will NEVER REJECT anyone who comes to him because it is the Father’s will not to lose anyone. We don’t even have to pay for membership fees and we get a free ride to eternity! And, it is God inviting us! What more can we ask for?

Yes, Lord Jesus, you are the bread of life! As long as we follow you faithfully, we surely will never get hungry and thirsty!
