Gospel Reading for October 11, 2025 – Luke 11: 27-28
BEING BLESSED
While Jesus was speaking, a woman from the crowd called out and said to him, “Blessed is the womb that carried you and the breasts at which you nursed.” He replied, “Rather, blessed are those who hear the word of God and observe it.”

The woman was short of saying that Mary’s BEING BLESSED is because she is the mother of Jesus, but Jesus corrected her – Mary is blessed because she heard the Word of God and observed it.
Yes, we tend to think that when a child excels in any field, or grows up to be a big contribution to the world, the parents are blessed. We fail to see that the parents are blessed with such a child because they heard the Word of God and observed it as the child was growing up.
Parents play a very important role in the shaping/formation of their children. Just as Jesus says in Matthew 7: 18 – “A good tree cannot bear bad fruit, and a bad tree cannot bear good fruit.”
Lord, may we be like Mary, who was so blessed because she heard God’s Word and acted upon it!
