Gospel Reading for October 07, 2025 – Luke 10: 38-42
JUST ROUTINE
Jesus entered a village where a woman whose name was Martha welcomed him. She had a sister named Mary who sat beside the Lord at his feet listening to him speak. Martha, burdened with much serving, came to him and said, “Lord, do you not care that my sister has left me by myself to do the serving? Tell her to help me.” The Lord said to her in reply, “Martha, Martha, you are anxious and worried about many things. There is need of only one thing. Mary has chosen the better part and it will not be taken from her.”

Sometimes, we are so anxious and worried about worldly matters, forgetting that there is more to life than these. Of course, routine work is needed. We need someone to cook, to clean etc.. But if we give more importance to these things than to listening to God’s Word everyday, all that we do will lose their meaning. Take for example the work we do to earn a living which is called “hanap-buhay.” When we do this during all of our waking hours in 7 days, it is no longer “hanap-buhay” but “hanap-patay” because then, it will affect our health and eventually cause our untimely death. This is why we need a day of rest, which the 3rd Commandment calls the Lord’s Day.
As Christians, it is not only a day of rest. It is a day to spend time with the whole family of God in communal penitence, praise, worship, thanksgiving, listening to God’s Word and receiving him in the form of sacred species during the Eucharistic Celebration.
A true Christian’s life can never be JUST ROUTINE because every moment of every day, God speaks to us in so many ways. And, when we do our best doing routine work and making it a loving offering to God, then, it will be one way of making him part of our ordinary everyday activities.
As we celebrate the Memorial of Our Lady of the Holy Rosary today, when we pray the rosary, let it not be a routine, but a conscious journeying with Mary through the life of Jesus.
Lord, we want you to be part of all the things we do each day!
