Lutasin ang kahirapan sa bansa sa halip na patayin ang mga hinihinalang sangkot sa ilegal na droga na pawang maliliit lamang.
Ito ang panawagan sa pamahalaan ng CBCP Episcopal Commission on Mission kaugnay ng patuloy na paglaki ng bilang ng napapatay sa kampanya ng pulisya laban sa bawal na gamot sa bansa.
Ayon kay Sorsogon Bishop Arturo Bastes, chairman ng komisyon, dahil sa kahirapan, napipilitang magtulak o gumamit ng bawal na gamot ang tao lalo na ang mga nasa laylayan.
Pahayag pa ng obispo, hindi rin kailagang patayin ang mga suspek sa halip, isailalim sila sa due process upang sa kalaunan makapagbagong buhay.
Dagdag ni bishop Bastes, bigyan din sila ng pamahalaan ng mapagkakakitaan upang kahit paano malimutan nila ang kanilang kahirapan at may maipantustos sa kanilang pang-araw-araw.
“Of course you must stop drug addiction pero I don’t like the way even though suspicion lang there should be cure that one is a real drug pusher most specially the real drug lord, kasi yung mga biktima are very small mga small fish lang, the poor people because of the poverty they are engage in drugs both using and selling, to cut the supply… the drug lord you have to be careful weather that fellow is a drug lord or there are rumors some our government official are drug dealers themselves, not the small pushers or users because they are victims of the drug lord, the cause is poverty, if you are in the rural area some people take drugs in order to forget the miseries of life they are trying to pronounce the responsibility because they have nothing so the first thing is really to make our people empowered by giving them a chance to live a quality life and because of their poverty they tried to have little drugs, gambling, alcohol so they make vices because of the poverty that is why we have to take out the root problem,” pahayag ni Bishop Bastes sa panayam ng programang Barangay Simbayanan sa Radyo Veritas.
Sa ulat ng Philippine National Police, mula July 1 hanggang kahapon, August 4, 2016 nasa 460 na ang napatay sa kampanya laban sa bawal na droga sa buong bansa.
Umabot na sa mahigit kalahating milyon ang mga suspek sa droga na boluntaryong sumuko sa mga awtoridad sa buong bansa.
