Magdadaos ang Pilipinas kasama ang Japan, Australia at Estados Unidos ng Maritime
Cooperative Activity (MCA) o joint patrol operation sa exclusive economic zone sa West Philippine Sea.
Inihayag ng Department of National Defense (DND) na bukod sa mga Naval forces ay kasali din sa gawain ang Air forces ng mga bansa.
Ayon sa DND,pangunahing layunin ng gawain na mapatibay ang ‘Interoperability’ ng mga defense forces na kalahok sa MCA o ang pagtutulungan sa wasto at mabilis na palitan ng impormasyon sakaling makaharap ang mga banta sa maritime security sa hinaharap.
“Demonstrating our collective commitment to strengthen regional and international cooperation in support of a free and open Indo-Pacific, our combined defense/armed forces will conduct a Maritime Cooperative Activity within the Philippine Exclusive Economic Zone on April 7, 2024, we stand with all nations in safeguarding the international order – based on the rule of law – that is the foundation for a peaceful and stable Indo-Pacific region,”
Sinabi ng DND na layon ng joint maritime patrol na mapalalim ang kaalaman ng mga Naval at Air Forces na kasama sa pagsasanay hinggil sa kahalagahan ng pagsunod sa United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS) upang igalang ang mga teritoryo ng mga bansa.
“Every country should be free to conduct lawful air and maritime operations, these activities with our allies Australia, Japan, and the Philippines underscore our shared commitment to ensuring that all countries are free to fly, sail, and operate wherever international law allows, our operations together support peace and stability at the heart of our shared vision for a free and open region,” ayon sa mensahe ni United States Secretary of Defense Lloyd James Austin na ipinadala ng DND sa Radio Veritas.
Unang kinilala ng Military Ordinariate of the Philippines ang mga kaparehong inisyatibo ng DND at Armed Forces of the Philippines na pinapatibay ang alyansa ng Pilipinas katuwang ang ibang bansa upang mapatibay din ang humanitarian at disaster response sa hinaharap.
