As part of its participation to the Earth Hour movement that promotes climate mitigation initiatives, Radio Veritas will broadcast a special program, “Ang Banal na Oras” with Manila Auxiliary Bishop Broderick Pabillo on Saturday, March 24, 2018.

The station will pre-empt the catechetical program “Living the life of the saint” from 8 pm to 9 pm and the first hour of “Hello Father 911” from 9 pm to 10 pm to give way for the special program that will focus on the discussion of the history of Earth Hour, and Pope Francis’ Encyclical Laudato Si.

The Encyclical Laudato Si aims to raise awareness on the current situation in our common home, and deepens one’s understanding about the urgency to take action. It also aims to provide meaningful reflections that will guide the faithful to ecological conversion.

By 8:30 pm, the station will participate in the Earth Hour movement by means of switching off the lights that will last until 9:30 pm.

Radio Veritas President Rev. Fr. Anton C.T. Pascual encouraged the public to protect the environment and  one way of which is supporting the Earth Hour 2018.

“As we get involved, we are also encouraging the public, not just to participate but to be aware on the effects of climate change on biodiversity. Let us take this as an opportunity to promote the habit of conserving and utilizing our natural resources,” Fr. Pascual said.

Earth Hour 2018 aims to bring together millions of individuals to shine a light on climate action such as the transition to renewables, promoting sustainable food and agriculture, adopting climate-friendly legislation and business practices, supporting conservation projects and raising awareness on climate issues in schools and amongst the public.

Started from a symbolic switch-off event in Sydney, Australia in 2007, the World Wide Fund for Nature’s Earth Hour has become the world’s largest grassroots movement for the environment mobilizing hundreds of millions of people in over 7000 cities and 172 countries.

Since then, WWF and Earth Hour teams worldwide are using the movement to raise support and funds for access to renewable energy, protection of wildlife and their habitats, building sustainable livelihoods and driving climate-friendly legislation and policy.

Radio Veritas first took part in the Earth Hour movement since 2009. The station is also continuously supporting the programs of the Ecology Ministry of the Archdiocese of Manila and the environment groups through its environmental advocacies.

Radio Veritas 846 is owned and operated by the Archdiocese of Manila. Established in 1969, the Ramon Magsaysay recipient Catholic radio station continues to be the leading social communications ministry for truth and evangelization in the country today.
