Dapat mabahala at magising na ang survey na 8 sa 10 o 78-porsiyento ng mga Filipino ay nababahala at natatakot sa laganap na extra-judicial killing sa bansa.
Inaasahan ni Balanga Bishop Ruperto Santos, chairman ng CBCP Episcopal Commission on Migrants and Itinerant People na dapat nang mabahala ang mga opisyal ng pamahalaan sa patuloy na pagdami ng namamatay sa kampanya kontra illegal na droga.
“Survey shows that the issue of Extra Judicial Killings should be one that the present administration should addressed.It is a bothersome and worrying issue,” pahayag ni Bishop Santos sa Radio Veritas.
Inihayag ni Bishop Santos na isang malaking karahasan ang pagkitil sa buhay lalu na at ipinapasa-kamay sa tao ang pagkitil sa buhay ng kapwa-tao.
Iginiit ng Obispo na hindi katanggap-tanggap sa isang demokratikong bansa na nababalewala ang umiiral na batas.
“Because lives are being taken without regard to the law. That is violent and lawless people are taking matters into their own hands and this is something. A nation that functions under a rule of law should regard as totally unacceptable,”paglilinaw ni Bishop Santos.
Nilinaw ng Obispo na ang lipunan na walang konsensiya at walang habag ay walang makakamtang kapayapaan dahil iiral ang kawalang pakiramdam at pakialam sa buhay ng tao.
“A society that relies on murder to keep order will never have complete, lasting peace. It will only be a society of fear; a society paralyzed and numbed by rampant occasions of murder. It will be a society without a conscience,”pahayag ng Obispo sa Radio Veritas.
Kaugnay nito, hinimok ng Obispo ang pamahalaan na itigil na ang EJK, imbestigahan ang mga sangkot at papanagutin sa batas.
“There must be a determined effort by the government to investigate these crimes and likewise bring the perpetrators to justice or our country could descend into chaos, and lives taken willy-nilly. It should put a stop to EJKs The “war on drugs” should be examined, evaluated so that it would not go beyond the parameters of the law and not be considered as a blanket endorsement or encouragement of the murder of purported criminals,”panawagan ni Bishop Santos.
Patuloy namang hinihimok ng mga lider ng Simbahang Katolika ang mga opisyal ng pamahalaan na magbigay ng buhay at pag-asa sa mga nagkasala sa halip na kumitil ng buhay.
