Gospel Reading for May 24, 2025 – John 15: 18-21
TABOO
“If the world hates you, realize that it hated me first. If you belonged to the world, the world would love its own; but because you do not belong to the world, and I have chosen you out of the world, the world hates you. Remember the word I spoke to you, ‘No slave is greater than his master.’ If they persecuted me, they will also persecute you. If they kept my word, they will also keep yours. And they will do all these things to you on account of my name, because they do not know the one who sent me.”

Have we noticed, that even way back in high school, those who were popular were those who loved partying, who loved fixing themselves in style, or those who had admirers from both boys and girls? Nowadays, you’d be called chic, when you wear branded clothes, bags, etc. and socialize a lot. But those who are frequently in Church, are unpopular and are called “manang.” Although things have become better than before, when we speak about God, we are called “weird,” as if it is a topic that should be TABOO.
Well, as Jesus said, he was persecuted so shall we also be. Anyway, it is best for us to belong to Jesus than to the world, because it is Jesus who saves!
Lord Jesus, we want to belong to you! Help us be your loyal followers!
