Gospel Reading for May 13, 2026 – John 16: 12-15
POWERFUL
Jesus said to his disciples: “I have much more to tell you, but you cannot bear it now. But when he comes, the Spirit of truth, he will guide you to all truth. He will not speak on his own, but he will speak what he hears, and will declare to you the things that are coming. He will glorify me, because he will take from what is mine and declare it to you. Everything that the Father has is mine; for this reason I told you that he will take from what is mine and declare it to you.”

If Jesus had left without sending his Spirit, the apostles would not have fully understood or faithfully preserved his teachings. Jesus might have become just another figure in the history of Israel, perhaps remembered merely as a philosopher, teacher, or historical personality.
Without the Holy Spirit, Christianity would not have grown to include nearly one-third of the world’s population today, with the faith continuing to grow rapidly in many parts of Africa, Asia, and Latin America.
Without the Holy Spirit, it would be extremely difficult to remain faithful as Christians in a chaotic world where many popular values and trends openly contradict the teachings of Christ.
No wonder it is the Spirit of God himself at work within us. Who could be more POWERFUL?
Lord Jesus, we thank you for the strength and power you give us through your Holy Spirit, enabling us to face the challenges of living out and upholding Christian values with steadfast faith and courage!
