Pinaiigting ng Ateneo de Zamboanga University (AdZU) ang mga hakbang ng unibersidad para sa seguridad ng mga estudyante at kawani nito kasunod ng insidente ng pamamaril noong Agosto 18, 2026.
Sa bagong community update noong Agosto 22, 2026, sinabi ni AdZU University President, Rev. Ernald Andal, SJ, na inaprubahan ng Board of Trustees ng unibersidad ang karagdagang resources para sa mas mahigpit na security measures, pangmatagalang improvements, at comprehensive security audit sa lahat ng campus ng unibersidad.
Ayon kay Fr. Andal, simula Lunes ay ipatutupad ang mas masusing vehicle inspection, mas mahigpit na ID checking, monitoring sa mga entry at exit points, at kontrol sa pagpasok ng mga bisita.
Kabilang din sa mga pangmatagalang hakbang ang karagdagang CCTV cameras sa classrooms at hallways, real-time monitoring, dagdag na metal detectors at X-ray machines sa mga itinalagang pedestrian entrances, at pagpapahusay sa visitor reception areas.
“Beginning Monday, we will implement more thorough vehicle inspections, stricter ID checks, closer monitoring of entry and exit points, and tighter control of visitor access. These procedures may take more time, especially during entry. We ask everyone for patience and cooperation.” Bahagi ng pahayag ni Fr. Andal.
Gayunman, binigyang-diin ni Fr. Andal na hindi lamang kagamitan at seguridad sa campus ang kailangan upang maprotektahan ang mga estudyante.
Pagbabahagi ng Pari, makikipagpulong ang pamunuan ng unibersidad sa mga magulang at guardians upang talakayin ang kanilang mga alalahanin at palakasin ang koordinasyon ng paaralan at pamilya.
“Equipment and procedures are only part of the work. What happens at home is just as important as what happens in school. Keeping our students safe also requires close cooperation between the school and families. This Tuesday, I will join the Vice President for Basic Education and our principals in meeting with parents and guardians. We will listen to their concerns and discuss how we can work more closely together.” Dagdag pa ni Fr. Andal.
Ayon kay Fr. Andal, layunin nilang magkaroon ng Sistema ng nagtutulungan ang paaralan, kawani, pamilya, teknolohiya at mga awtoridad upang mapanatiling ligtas ang buong komunidad.
“Our goal is to build a system in which our facilities, personnel, procedures, technology, families, and public authorities work together to protect our students and personnel.” Ayon pa kay Fr. Andal.
Samantala, patuloy namang nakikipagtulungan ang AdZU sa Philippine National Police at iba pang government agencies sa imbestigasyon, kung saan inaasahang sa Lunes ilalabas ang official police report kaugnay ng insidente.
Tiniyak naman ng unibersidad na pinangalagaan at pinireserba nito ang mga record na maaaring makatulong sa imbestigasyon, kabilang ang mga usapin tungkol sa motibo at kung paano nakakuha ng baril ang menor de edad na sangkot sa insidente.
“From the first day, we have followed clear procedures for coordinating with the PNP and other government agencies. We have also secured and preserved all university records relevant to the investigation.” Ani Fr. Andal.
Patuloy rin ang psychosocial support para sa mga naapektuhan ng insidente, kung saan mahigit 200 volunteers mula sa AdZU at partner agencies ang tumulong sa psychological first aid sessions at iba pang recovery efforts.
Sa gitna ng patuloy na paghilom ng komunidad, nanawagan si Fr. Andal ng pagkakaisa at pagtutulungan upang harapin ang mga hamon sa seguridad.
“Our work of care and recovery continues. More than 200 volunteers from AdZU and our partner agencies have supported our psychological first aid sessions and other efforts, and we are deeply grateful to each of them. Care for our community must also include concrete action to strengthen safety.” Ayon pa kay Fr. Andal.
Hiniling din ni Fr. Andal ang patuloy na tiwala at pakikiisa ng buong AdZU community habang isinasagawa ang mga bagong security protocols, bilang bahagi ng layunin na higit na maprotektahan ang mga mag-aaral at mga kawani ng unibersidad.
Apela ni Fr. Andal, “Healing must be grounded in truth. We need to understand these matters so that accountability can be properly addressed, and our schools can be made safer. We know that confidence will be strengthened by what we do, not only by what we say. There is still much work ahead. We will continue to face it with honesty, with resolve, and care for our community.”
