Radio Veritas, the leading faith-based am station in the Philippines is inviting the public to take part in “Simbang Gabi” from December 15 to 23, 2016 at 6:00 pm and the “Misa de Gallo” from December 16 to 24, 2016, 5:00am at the Our Lady of Veritas Chapel in Quezon City.
Christmas Day in the Philippines is ushered in by the nine-day dawn Masses that start on Dec. 16, popularly known as the “Misa de Gallo” (Rooster’s Mass) in the traditional Spanish or “Simbang Gabi” in Tagalog. Based on the research, the Christmas practice of the early morning mass during the Spaniards colonization allowed farmers to attend mass before going to work on the fields. It was formerly called as “La Misa Del Gallo” or The Mass of the Rooster because when Jesus was born, it was the only time that a rooster crowed at midnight.
Filipinos, attending the Misa de Gallo show their devotion and faith to the Holy Child. It is also a preparation for the people to receive from God the great gift or “Aguinaldo” of Christmas, who is Jesus, the savior of the world. The nine-day mass are also considered as a novena to the Blessed Virgin Mary by the Catholic faithful. It is also believed that completing the novena is supposed to mean that God might grant the devotee’s special wish or favor.
Radio Veritas President Rev. Fr. Anton C.T. Pascual invites the public to join and take part in the nine-day series of Masses in the station.
“We invite our Kapanalig and all the Catholic faithful to join us in our spiritual preparation for the celebration of the birth of Christ, our Savior in the Misa de Gallo sa Veritas and together, let us celebrate the advent season with our hearts filled with joy and thanksgiving,” Fr. Pascual said.
Rev. Fr. Soy Hernando will preside the first Simbang Gabi on December 15, 2016 at 5:00pm while the first day of the Misa de Gallo on December 16, 2016 will be presided by Most Rev. Teodoro Bacani, Jr., D.D., Bishop Emeritus of Novaliches. Here is the list of the priests who will preside the suceeding Simbang Gabi and Misa De Gallo sa Veritas:
