Umapela ng panalangin si Davao Abp. Romulo Valles – Pangulo ng Catholic Bishops Conference of the Philippines para sa mga naapektuhan ng pambobomba sa Jolo Cathedral noong linggo ng umaga ika-27 ng Enero.
Labis na ikinalungkot ni Abp. Valles ang naganap na karahasan na nagdulot ng pagkasawi ng maraming indibidwal matapos sumabog ang isang bomba habang isinasagawa ang isang banal na misa sa loob ng sombahan.
Dahil dito, nanawagan si Abp. Valles sa mga mananampalataya na alalahanin at ipanalangin ang mga nasawi, mga naiwang pamilya, at lahat ng naapektuhan maging ang mga muslim na malapit sa lugar na pinangyarihan ng pagsabog.

Brothers and sisters in the Lord I am on air now, Abp. Romulo Valles the Archbishop of Davao and the current President of the CBCP. We have just heard this morning the very very sad and very tragic news of the bomb. I don’t have much details but I go from what we heard, there’s a bomb that exploded in the Cathedral of Jolo and I will not give the number because there are different news on the casualties and many are wounded, for sure many where killed and many are wounded. It is a very sad, very tragic incident and we pray for all of Jolo, muslims and Christians and Catholics a like specially for those who really experience this difficult situation we have loved ones who where killed in that bomb blast and we pray for them we pray for the wounded, we pray for the priests in the cathedral, we pray for the lay leaders and even the muslims around, it is a difficult situation. So, I beg and I urge all of you my dear listeners through the Radio Veritas Manila to offer special and sincere prayer for the people and for the situation in Jolo. We always trust in the goodness of the Lord and in the mercy of the Lord and in all this darkness and extreme pain and suffering in our faith we cling to the Lord and we pray for them to console the suffering and to those who lost lives, families of those people killed and for everyone we commend them to the Lord and to our blessed mother the Patroness of the Cathedral is Our Lady of Mt. Carmel.
So we pray one Our Father …
And also the Blessed Mother, Our Lady of Mt. Carmel, She is also Our Lady of Sorrows and so we beg Her to accompany the people of Jolo as we pray … (Hail Mary)

Ayon kay ARMM Regional Director C/Supt. Graciano Mijares, kaninang alas dose ng tanghali ay umabot na sa 21 ang bilang ng mga nasawi at 71 na sugatan habang nagpapatuloy pa rin ang pagsisiyasat sa lugar.
Sa tala ng Catholic Directory of the Philippines mayroong 29,500 ang bilang ng mga mananampalataya sa Apostolic Vicariate of Jolo mula sa kabuuang populasyon nito na 1.7milyon.
