Gospel Reading for February 26, 2026 – Matthew 7: 7-12
COMPLETELY INDEPENDENT
Jesus said to his disciples: “Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you. For everyone who asks, receives; and the one who seeks, finds; and to the one who knocks, the door will be opened. Which one of you would hand his son a stone when he asked for a loaf of bread, or a snake when he asked for a fish? If you then, who are wicked, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your heavenly Father give good things to those who ask him.
“Do to others whatever you would have them do to you. This is the law and the prophets.”

How important it is to have faith that God hears and answers our prayers—and to have the trust that he answers them in the way that is truly best for us.
It is just as important to remember that we are always in need. As human beings, we can never be COMPLETELY INDEPENDENT. We all require the help and support of others. That is why we must learn to do for others what we hope they would do for us.
Above all, we will always be in need of God, the source and provider of everything we have and everything we are!
Let us reflect on the timeless and meaningful song by Joan Baez, NO MAN IS AN ISLAND
No man is an island.
No man stands alone.
Each man’s joy is joy to me.
Each man’s grief is my own.
We need one another,
so I will defend
each man as my brother,
each man as my friend.
I saw the people gather.
I heard the music start.
The song that they were singing,
is ringing in my heart.
No man is an island.
Way out in the blue,
We all look to the one above,
for our strength to renew.
When I help my brother,
Then I know that I
plant the seed of friendship
that will never die!
