Gospel Reading for February 17, 2025 – Mark 8: 11-13
EFFORT IN FUTILITY
The Pharisees came forward and began to argue with Jesus, seeking from him a sign from heaven to test him. He sighed from the depth of his spirit and said, “Why does this generation seek a sign? Amen, I say to you, no sign will be given to this generation.” Then he left them, got into the boat again and went off to the other shore.

It is truly exasperating and an EFFORT IN FUTILITY to keep trying to convince someone to believe in God’s Love. God’s Love is seen everywhere – in the things he created; the people who love and care for us; the sustenance from nature which we receive each day, etc.. Only those who choose to be blind will be blind.
Despite all the things he did – bring the dead to life, drive out demons, heal the sick, and so many other miracles he performed, the Pharisees did not see even just one sign!
When we have done our best, all we have to do is shake off the dust from our feet and move on (Matthew 10: 14-16). There will always be others who would want to see and to believe.
Lord, may we always have the grace to feel your love as we go through life even in the midst of adversities!
