Suportado at kinatigan ng Catholic Bishops’ Conference of the Philippines Permanent Committee on Public Affairs ang ginagawang imbestigasyon ng Senate Committee on Justice and Human Rights sa laganap na extra-judicial killing sa war on drugs ng administrasyong Duterte.

Ayon kay Father Jerome Secillano, executive secretary ng komisyon, ang inquiry ay pagpapakita ng tunay na demokrasya o umiiral ang working democracy sa bansa.

“I support the ongoing Senate investigation on extrajudicial killings because it shows that we have a working democracy. If other State institutions would do nothing about the spate of killings in the country, then killing extra-judicially would become the “new normal” in our society especially with the public’s apparent acceptance of it,”pahayag ni Father Secillano sa Radio Veritas.

Iginiit ni Father Secillano na kung hindi ito gagawin ng Senado at iba pang ahensiya ng pamahalaan ay magpapatuloy ang mga pagpatay extra-juducially at magiging new norms ito sa Pilipinas.

Inihayag ng pari na kung walang kikilos ay dahan-dahang matatanggap ng mga Filipino na OK lang ang pagpatay ng walang due process.

Nilinaw ni Father Secillano na sa pamamagitan ng Senate hearing ay mapapanatili pa rin ang pagsusulong ng karapatang pantao na dapat dumaan sa tamang proseso at paglilitis ang isang pinaghihinalaang sangkot sa ilegal na droga.

“Although the investigation will not lead us to conclusive findings that extrajudicial killings are perpetrated by government operatives, at least this hearing will temper any attempt to railroad due process and the simple disregard for man’s basic right to life,”paglilinaw ng pari sa Radio Veritas.

Batay sa nakalap na datos ng Commission on Human Rights, umaabot na sa 1,916 ang napapatay sa loob ng 55-araw na war on drugs ng Duterte administration.
