Noong panahong iyon, pumasok si Jesus sa isang nayon. Malugod siyang tinanggap ng isang babaing nagngangalang Marta sa tahanan nito. Ang babaing ito’y may isang kapatid na Maria ang pangalan. Naupo ito sa paanan ng Panginoon at nakinig sa kanyang itinuturo. Alalang-alala si Marta sapagkat kulang ang kanyang katawan sa paghahanda, kaya’t lumapit siya kay Jesus at ang wika, “Panginoon, sabihin nga po ninyo sa kapatid kong tulungan naman ako.” Ngunit sinagot siya ng Panginoon, “Marta, Marta, naliligalig ka at abalang-abala sa maraming bagay, ngunit isa lamang ang talagang kailangan. Pinili ni Maria ang lalong mabuti, at ito’y hindi aalisin sa kanya.”

Tulad ng sinabi ni Jesus, pinili ni Maria ang lalong mabuti – ang makinig sa kanya. Siyempre, napakalaking karangalan ang makinig at makausap ang Mesiyas mismo, ang Anak ng Diyos! Para sa ating mga Kristiyano, nakakainggit si Maria. Isipin na lang natin na napapakinggan lang natin si Jesus mula sa Bibliya na maaari din nating makuha “online,” samantalang si Maria, “face-to-face” kay Jesus! Marahil ay manghang-mangha si Maria kay Jesus katulad ng mga taong sumusunod lagi kay Jesus, kaya’t `di niya napansin na kailangan ng tulong ni Marta.

Sino tayo? Si Marta o si Maria? Katulad ba tayo ni Marta na abalang-abala sa mga bagay na hindi espirituwal? O, katulad ba tayo ni Maria, na subsob sa mga espirituwal na bagay?

Hindi naman sinabi ni Jesus na ang ginagawa ni Marta ay hindi mahalaga. Sinabi lang niya na pinili ni Maria ang lalong mabuti. Lahat tayo ay may kani-kanyang papel sa buhay. May mga pamilya kung saan ang ama ang naghahanap-buhay at ang ina ang nag-aalaga ng mga anak. Kung lahat ng tao ay papasok sa kumbento o seminaryo, sino ang magpapalaganap ng buhay at mag-aalaga nito?

Mayroong paraan kung paano natin maipagsasama ang dalawang ito – kung sa lahat ng ating gawain, at saan man natin kailangang gawin ito, nakikinig tayo kay Jesus at sinusunod kung paano niya nais nating gawin ito, magagawa natin pareho ang ginawa ni Marta at ni Maria. Kung iaalay natin sa Diyos ang lahat ng mga gawain natin, maging maliit man o malaki, tiyak na gagawin natin ng pinakamaayos ito ayon sa kalooban ng Diyos, sapagkat ayaw nating mag-alay ng katulad ng kay Cain. Sa gayon, magagawa nating pareho ito. Kung lahat tayong mga Kristiyano ay ganito sa ating buhay, isipin na lang natin na makakamit natin ang ISANG NAPAKAGANDANG MUNDO!

Sa tuwing tayo ay magsisimula ng ating araw, ipanalangin natin itong panalangin ni Sta. Teresa ng Lisieux –

Diyos ko po ! Iniaalay ko sa Iyo ang lahat ng aking mga gawa sa araw na ito para sa mga intensyon at para sa kaluwalhatian ng Sagradong Puso ni Jesus. Nais kong pabanalin ang bawat pintig ng aking puso, ang aking bawat pag-iisip, ang aking pinakasimpleng mga gawa, sa pamamagitan ng pagsasama-sama sa mga ito sa Kanyang walang katapusang mga merito; at nais kong gumawa ng kabayaran para sa aking mga kasalanan sa pamamagitan ng paghahagis sa mga ito sa pugon ng Kanyang Mahabaging Pag-ibig.

Diyos ko po! Hinihiling ko sa iyo para sa aking sarili at para sa mga taong mahal ko, ang biyaya upang ganap na matupad ang Iyong Banal na Kalooban, na tanggapin para sa pag-ibig sa Iyo ang mga kagalakan at kalungkutan nitong lumilipas na buhay, upang balang araw tayo ay magkaisa sa Langit ng walang hanggan.
