Nagpaabot ng kaniyang pakikiramay ang Catholic Bishops Conference of the Philippines (CBCP) sa pagkamatay ni Fr. Richmond Nilo mula sa Diocese ng Cabanatuan na binaril at napatay ng mga hindi pa nakikilalang mga salarin.
Ayon kay Davao Archbishop Romulo Valles, pangulo ng CBCP, personal niyang tinawagan si Cabanatuan Bishop Sofronio Bancud para ipabatid ang pakikiramay sa pagkakapaslang kay Fr. Nilo.
“Again I am deeply sad and bothered because we may note that Fr. Nilo is the 3rd priest to be killed in these recent months…Let us pray for Fr. Nilo, let us pray for Bishop Bancud and the clergy, religious and people of the Diocese of Cabanatuan. Let us pray for the family of Fr. Nilo I cannot just imagine the shocked and grief that his family and friends, his parishioners they are facing of this terrible death of their priest,” ayon kay Archbishop Valles.
Base sa ulat, alas-5 ng hapon nang barilin ng hindi pa nakikilalang salarin si Fr. Nilo na nakatakda sanang magdiwang ng misa sa isang kapilya sa Barangay Mayamot, Zaragoza Nueva Ecija.
December 4, binaril at napatay si Fr. Marcelito Paez sa Jaen, Nueva Ecija; at binaril din at napatay si Fr. Mark Ventura sa Gattaran Cagayan noong April 29.
Nanawagan din ang Arsobispo sa mga pulis na magsagawa ng masusing imbestigasyon para makamit ang katarungan para kay Fr. Nilo.
“I would really appeal, really appeal to our authorities especially the police to do their best to investigate and bring the perpetrator/s of this crime to justice. That’s at least, the least among the things that we can do. We can do a number of things but… it is very important thing to restore our confidence that in this crime like this, justice will be done,” ayon pa sa arsobispo.
Sa kabila ng pinakahuling insidente ng pagpaslang sa isang pari, hindi rin sang-ayon ang CBCP sa panukalang bigyang armas ang mga pari para sa kanilang kaligtasan.
“I would strongly oppose to arm the priest. We are men of God, men of the church and it is part of our ministry to face (not always) but to face dangers, to face deaths if one may say that way. But we would do it just what Jesus did …” ayon pa sa Arsobispo.
