Pinangunahan ni Jaro Archbishop Angel Lagdameo ang misa para sa pagtatapos ng National Laity Week na ginanap sa Shrine of Our Lady of Fatima sa Jaro, Iloilo City.
Sa kaniyang homiliya, binigyan-diin ng Arsobispo ang kahalagahan ng mga Layko sa simbahan at sa kanilang ginalawang mundo sa iba’t ibang larangan at ang pagpapalaganap ng turo ni Kristo at ang pagsasabuhay ng mga aral na ito sa araw araw na pamumuhay.
“Thus, either say you will never become holy if you are uprooted in the world because the vocation to holiness from the lay faithful and the secular character of your life is inseparable. The condition of being Christian and the secular character are intertwined in the unity and totality of your lay vocation. The fact of being in the world and of being Christian cannot be understood as two conflicting realities that limit each other in such a way that the increase of one of them is detriment to the other that is, that one cannot fully be secular, if one is fully Christian,” bahagi ng homiliya ni Archbishop Lagdameo.
Paliwanag pa ni Archbishop Lagdameo, ang mga Layko ay hindi lamang mga Layko na nagsisilbi sa loob ng simbahan, kundi lahat ng Kristiyanong binyagan maging hindi man miyembro ng organisasyon sa simbahan.
“Does it mean, the laity in the world are less catholic than the laity in the Church? Those in the world are not necessarily less in holiness compared to those in the Church. Let us be reminded that the special vocation of the laity is their Christian life in the world. Their dedication to their mission in the world constitute the most substantial and effective aspect of their mission in the church. In other words they become useful to the church when they make themselves useful to the world.” ayon pa sa Archbishop.
Hinimok ni Archbishop Lagdameo ang mga Layko na pagtuunan ng pansin ang pagtataguyod ng kaharian ng Diyos at hindi ang paghahangad ng lahat ng kayamanan at kapangyarihan sa mundo.
Kasamang nagconcelebrate sa misa si Manila Auxiliary Bishop Broderick Pabillo, Chairman ng Catholic Bishops Confernce of the Philippines – Episcopal Commission on Laity Apostolate at ilang mga pari ng Iloilo.
Bukod dito nagpasalamat din ang Arsobispo sa National Council of the Laity sa pagdaraos ng pagtitipon sa Jaro.
Bago ang misa, sa kabila ng bahagyang pag-ulan ay nagprusisyon ang may 400 delegado na dumalo sa closing ceremony ng National Laity Week mula sa Eon Convention Center hanggang sa Diocesan Shrine of Our Lady of Fatima.
