Nanawagan si Antipolo Bishop Ruperto Cruz Santos sa mga mananampalataya na manatiling mapagmatyag, mapanalanginin, at mapayapa sa gitna ng usapin ng impeachment laban kay Vice President Sara Duterte.
Ayon kay Bishop Santos, hindi siya nakikialam sa mga teknikal na isyu sa batas, ngunit tungkulin niyang magsalita tungkol sa moral at espiritwal na pananaw lalo na kung may hindi pagkakaunawaan sa pagitan ng mga institusyon ng gobyerno.
“As a shepherd of souls, I do not speak to the technical legal issues of impeachment proceedings, but I do speak to the moral and spiritual posture we must adopt when institutions appear to be in conflict and when the rule of law seems strained,” aniya.
Tinukoy niya ang desisyon ng Korte Suprema na ipatigil ang impeachment laban kay VP Duterte dahil sa isyu ng Saligang Batas. Aniya, ito ay paalala na kahit sa pulitika, may mga limitasyong dapat sundin ayon sa batas at konsensiya.
“The recent developments surrounding the impeachment of Vice President Sara Duterte have stirred both concern and confusion among the faithful. The Supreme Court’s decision to block the proceedings on constitutional grounds reminds us that even in political processes, there are boundaries set by law and conscience,” ayon sa mensahe ni Bishop Santos.
Ngunit giit ng Obispo, hindi laging sapat ang mga desisyon ng korte upang matugunan ang mas malalim na usapin ng katarungan at katotohanan.
“But legal outcomes, while binding, do not always resolve the deeper questions of justice, integrity, and truth.”
Dagdag pa ng obispo, “In moments like these, I urge the faithful to respond not with cynicism, but with discernment. We must be vigilant, yes—but also prayerful. We must seek truth, but never abandon charity.”
Pinaalalahanan niya na ang batas ay mahalaga sa isang makatarungang lipunan, pero dapat itong nakaangkla sa moral na katotohanan at kabutihan para sa nakararami.
“The Church teaches that the rule of law is essential to a just society. But laws must be rooted in moral truth, and their interpretation must serve the common good.”
Sa harap ng pagkakahati ng ilang legal institution, hinikayat niya ang mga Katoliko na huwag manahimik kundi makilahok gamit ang pananampalataya at panalangin.
“When legal institutions appear divided or politicized, the faithful must not retreat into passivity. Instead, we must engage with conscience, informed by faith and guided by prayer,” saad pa ni Bishop Santos.
Binigyang-diin din ng Obispo na ang mga opisyal ng gobyerno ay may pananagutan hindi lamang sa batas kundi maging sa moralidad. Dapat aniyang harapin ang mga akusasyon sa tamang proseso at may paggalang sa dangal ng tao.
“Public officials are servants of the people, and their accountability is not only legal but moral. The Church calls for transparency, integrity, and humility in leadership.”
Nanawagan din siya sa mga layko na makibahagi sa pagbabagong moral ng lipunan at itaguyod ang katotohanan at pananagutan.
“To our lay faithful: your role is not merely to observe, but to participate in the moral renewal of our nation. Uphold truth. Demand accountability. But do so with respect, with prayer, and with hope.”
Hinimok rin niya ang mga pari at relihiyoso na maging huwaran sa pamumuhay at hindi lamang sa salita.
“To our priests and religious: we must be models of integrity, simplicity, and courage. Let us teach our people not only by our words, but by our witness.”
Ipinaalala ni Bishop Santos na hindi sa pulitika matatagpuan ang tunay na pag-asa kundi kay Kristo, at ang misyon ng Simbahan ay ang magtayo ng Kaharian ng Diyos sa bawat makatarungang kilos, panalangin ng awa, at buhay na banal.
“In all things, let us remember: our hope is not in politics, but in Christ. And our mission is not to win arguments, but to build the Kingdom—one act of justice, one prayer of mercy, one life of holiness at a time.”
“May the Lord guide our nation, heal our divisions, and raise up leaders who serve with wisdom and humility,” ayon pa sa mensahe ng Obispo.
