Gospel Reading for May 02, 2024 – John 15: 9-11
PERFECT LOVE
Jesus said to his disciples: “As the Father loves me, so I also love you. Remain in my love. If you keep my commandments, you will remain in my love, just as I have kept my Father’s commandments and remain in his love.
“I have told you this so that my joy might be in you and your joy might be complete.”

Imagine the Father’s love for Jesus. He is the source of love so we can expect to have PERFECT LOVE from Jesus. But, we have to remain in his love, and keep his commandments just as he kept his Father’s commandments.
Our relationship with God is a Covenant. “You shall be My people, and I will be your God.” (Exodus 6: 7; Leviticus 26: 11-12; Jeremiah 11: 4; Jeremiah 30: 22). It cannot be a love-hate relationship because his love is CONSTANT, unlike a lot of relationships between people. We can expect him to be very faithful to us. This is why when we remain in his love, when we are faithful to our Covenant with him, our joy will be complete. Why settle for anything less, when we shall be truly blessed?
Let us ponder on the hymn, STRONG AND CONSTANT written by Frank Andersen, MSC –
I will be your God who walks with you!
You will be always within my hand!
Take your heart and give it all to me!
Strong and constant is my love!
Strong and constant is my love!
Should you wander far away from me,
I will search for you in ev’ry land!
Should you call, then you will truly know:
Strong and constant is my love!
Strong and constant is my love!
When you know sorrow within your life,
I will come, I will embrace your heart!
Through your pain you will discover me!
Strong and constant is my love!
Strong and constant is my love!
