Saint Leonidas of Alexandria was beheaded in 202 at Alexandria, Egypt leaving seven children orphans. The eldest of whom, in fact, Origen, was just seventeen whom he raised and taught.

History describes the care with which Leonidas educated his son in the study of the Sacred Scriptures before that of the letters. He thanked God for having had a child so early enthusiastic about the way of God, how he recognized the hand of God in the child, and at night, when he slept, he stopped to kiss his chest as if it were a shrine of the Holy Spirit.

He had preserved a fragment of the letter that his seventeen-year-old son sent to him in prison to urge him never give up.

OMNISCIENT

Jesus said to his disciples: “Suppose one of you has a friend to whom he goes at midnight and says, ‘Friend, lend me three loaves of bread, for a friend of mine has arrived at my house from a journey and I have nothing to offer him,’ and he says in reply from within, ‘Do not bother me; the door has already been locked and my children and I are already in bed. I cannot get up to give you anything.’ I tell you, if he does not get up to give him the loaves because of their friendship, he will get up to give him whatever he needs because of his persistence.

“And I tell you, ask and you will receive; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you. For everyone who asks, receives; and the one who seeks, finds; and to the one who knocks, the door will be opened. What father among you would hand his son a snake when he asks for a fish? Or hand him a scorpion when he asks for an egg? If you then, who are wicked, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will the Father in heaven give the Holy Spirit to those who ask him?”

Prayer has to go with Faith and Trust. Otherwise, if what we ask for does not come according to our timeline, we may start thinking that our prayers are not being heard and that it is useless to keep on praying.

When we pray with true Faith in God, we are sure that he will answer our prayers at the right time and in the right way. God is OMNISCIENT; hence, we have to learn to trust him.

A lot of us have realized that our prayers were answered only when we looked back and saw how our lives and circumstances unfolded—not the way we wanted, but in the way that was best for us.

Lord, may we always put our trust in you!

Your words today,
O Lord through St. Paul
speak directly to us in this
time too:

O stupid Galatians! Who has bewitched you, before whose eyes Jesus was publicly portrayed as crucified? (Galatians 3:1)

O how we your people
hate to hear those words
these days because they are
hurtfully true -
it is plain stupidity
on our part to abandon all
your teachings to adopt
all these strange ideas
about life that overstretch
our rights without any regard
to what is true and good;
to insist that only matter matters
without accepting the fact that
the most profound realities in life
are those felt than seen; and,
to believe more in ourselves
than in you, Lord Jesus Christ.
We have been so bewitched,
enthralled, and amazed by new
ideas and beliefs that are clearly
self-serving and untrue,
"budol" or fake in every sense,
totally forgetting how you have never
left nor abandon us all these years
through thick and thin,
doing only what is best and good
for us only to follow the fascinating
special effects of those trash
peddled in social media,
fabricated by AI.
Awaken us,
dear Jesus to the realities
of your loving presence
in us, in our lives,
to follow our hearts where
we find peace and joy
despite pains and sacrifices
than follow our flesh
and whims
of pleasures and convenience
so temporary,
ephemeral,
most of all
superficial;
ignite our hearts
to seek and follow you
in a life of prayer
that changes primarily
us, not the situations.
Amen.

BRIDGING THE GAP

Gospel Reading for October 07, 2026 – Luke 11: 1-4

BRIDGING THE GAP

Jesus was praying in a certain place, and when he had finished, one of his disciples said to him, “Lord, teach us to pray just as John taught his disciples.” He said to them, “When you pray, say:

Father, hallowed be your name, your Kingdom come. Give us each day our daily bread and forgive us our sins for we ourselves forgive everyone in debt to us, and do not subject us to the final test.”

————

In this Gospel reading, Jesus teaches us the elements of prayer. We must first recognize whom we are supplicating: the Father. He is not just an ordinary father because he is the Father above all fathers. He is holy, and he has a Kingdom that is not only in heaven but is already on earth. Because he is the Father, he is our provider; hence, we ask him to grant us our needs.
But it is not enough to ask for our temporal needs. We need to ask him to forgive us for our wrongdoings. We must also be willing to forgive those who have wronged us. Finally, we ask him to protect us from all the tests of the evil one.

It is good that the disciples asked Jesus to teach them how to pray. We now benefit from Jesus’ lesson on prayer.

Lord Jesus, thank you for BRIDGING THE GAP created by sin between God and ourselves. Thank you for teaching us to communicate with him. Amen.
