Gospel Reading for July 20, 2025 – :Luke 10: 28-32

TEMPORARY

Jesus entered a village where a woman whose name was Martha welcomed him. She had a sister named Mary who sat beside the Lord at his feet listening to him speak. Martha, burdened with much serving, came to him and said, “Lord, do you not care that my sister has left me by myself to do the serving? Tell her to help me.” The Lord said to her in reply, “Martha, Martha, you are anxious and worried about many things. There is need of only one thing. Mary has chosen the better part and it will not be taken from her.”

————

Come to think of it. Temporal matters are issues related to the present life, worldly affairs, and everyday concerns, and are TEMPORARY. Because they are TEMPORARY, they do not encompass the spiritual side of life which is ETERNAL and which is directly connected with God. Why then bother so much about TEMPORARY things? Why worry so much about TEMPORARY things? THEY WILL JUST PASS.

As Jesus pointed out to Martha – The better part of life is to give time to listen to the Lord. When we are too busy with temporal matters, or matters of the world, we will lose the VERY ESSENCE of life: To live with and like God who created us, everyday up to eternity!

Let us ponder on this song written by Ron Gaylord and popularized by Glenn Campbell in 1972, I WILL NEVER PASS THIS WAY AGAIN –

I will pass this way but once
if there’s any good that I can do
let me do it now for I’ll never pass
this way again.
I will see this day but once.
If there’s any kindness I can show
let me show it now for
I’ll never see this day again.
Tomorrow may be too late my friend
to do all the good that you planned.
So reach out to those who need you
and lend them a helping hand.
I will know this world but once
if there’s any love that I can give,
let me give it now oh Lord, please show me how.
For I’ll never know this world,
I’ll never see this day.
I’ll never pass this way again.
