Naniniwala ang humanitarian, development and advocacy arm ng Catholic Bishops’ Conference of the Philippines (CBCP) na patuloy na magwawagi ang katiwalian kapag pinatatahimik ang mga tagapagsiwalat ng katotohanan, habang muli naming mabubuhay ang pag-asa kung maitataguyod ang katarungan at katotohanan lipunan.
Ito ang pahayag ni Caritas Philippines President, Kidapawan Bishop Jose Colin Bagaforo bilang pagkundina sa pagpaslang kay Niruh Kyle Antatico na dating legal researcher ng National Irrigation Administration (NIA) na pinatay sa Cagayan de Oro noong Oktubre 10, 2025.
“When whistleblowers are silenced, corruption wins. When truth is punished, democracy bleeds. But when justice is done, life and hope are renewed.” Bahagi ng pahayag ni Bishop Bagaforo.
Si Antatico ay kilala bilang isang matapang na whistleblower na nagsiwalat ng mga iregularidad sa ilang proyekto ng NIA.
Matapos ang pagsisiwalat ni Antatico ay ilang mga pagbabanta sa buhay ang kanyang nataanggap bago ang naganap na pagpaslang.
Ayon kay Bishop Bagaforo, ang pananahimik at kawalan ng pananagutan sa mga ganitong krimen ay nagpapatibay sa kultura ng impunidad at nagpapadala ng mensaheng mapanganib ang magsalita laban sa katiwalian sa bansa.
“Mr. Antatico, a courageous whistleblower, had exposed alleged anomalies in NIA projects and received death threats even before his murder. His killing is not only an attack on one man — it is an attack on all Filipinos who dare to hold power to account. When truth-tellers are silenced and no one is held responsible, a culture of impunity thrives. It sends a chilling message that to speak truth to power is dangerous, and that those in authority can act without consequence. This is not only a tragedy — it is a moral crisis that demands action.” Pagbabahagi ni Bishop Bagaforo.
Kasama ng #FactsFirstPH information integrity coalition at iba’t ibang human rights groups, nanindigan ang Caritas Philippines laban sa katiwalian at kawalang katarungan, at nananawagan ng hustisya para kay Antatico at sa lahat ng katotohanang pilit na pinatatahimik sa bansa.
Hinimok rin ng organisasyon ang National Irrigation Administration, Department of Justice, Philippine National Police, at iba pang sangay ng pamahalaan na panagutin ang mga salarin at ang mga tiwaling opisyal na nasangkot sa mga iregularidad na ibinunyag ni Antatico.
Iginiit ni Bishop Bagaforo na ang hustisya para kay Antatico ay hindi nagtatapos sa pagpaparusa sa mga pumatay sa kanya, kundi sa paglalantad ng katotohanan sa likod ng maling paggamit ng pondo para sa irigasyon, na nakalaan sana para sa mga magsasakang Pilipino.
“Caritas Philippines, together with the #FactsFirstPH information integrity coalition, and other human rights groups, stands firmly against corruption and impunity. We condemn in the strongest possible terms the killing of whistleblowers and the continued neglect of government institutions that allow injustice to persist. We demand justice for those who have been silenced and call on the National Irrigation Administration, the Department of Justice, the Philippine National Police, and all branches of government to ensure that both the killers and the corrupt networks exposed by Mr. Antatico are brought to justice.” Dagdag pa ni Bishop Bagaforo.
Nanindigan ang Caritas Philippines na hindi mananahimik ang institusyon ng Simbahan sa harap ng anumang takot at karahasan.
Hinimok din ni Bishop Bagaforo ang mga pinuno ng pamahalaan na gawing pagkakataon ang pangyayari para sa moral na pagbabagong-loob at paglilinis ng mga institusyon upang maibalik ang tiwala ng bayan sa mga ahensya at opisyal ng pamahalaan.
“As Church, we stand with the families of truth-tellers like Kyle Antatico. We will not allow fear to prevail. We urge all government officials to make this tragedy an opportunity for moral conversion — to cleanse our institutions, protect whistleblowers, and restore faith in governance.” Ayon pa kay Bishop Bagaforo.
