Gospel Reading for October 09, 2025 – Luke 11: 5-13
OMNISCIENT
Jesus said to his disciples: “Suppose one of you has a friend to whom he goes at midnight and says, ‘Friend, lend me three loaves of bread, for a friend of mine has arrived at my house from a journey, and I have nothing to offer him,’ and he says in reply from within, ‘Do not bother me; the door has already been locked and my children and I are already in bed. I cannot get up to give you anything.’ I tell you, if he does not get up to give him the loaves because of their friendship, he will get up to give him whatever he needs because of his persistence.
“And I tell you, ask and you will receive; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you. For everyone who asks, receives; and the one who seeks, finds; and to the one who knocks, the door will be opened. What father among you would hand his son a snake when he asks for a fish? Or hand him a scorpion when he asks for an egg? If you then, who are wicked, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will the Father in heaven give the Holy Spirit to those who ask him?”

“I have always been praying to win the lotto, but it has never happened!”
So, why is Jesus telling us that: we will receive when we ask; we will find when we seek; the door will be opened to us if we knock?
Perhaps, what we are asking for will bring us a snake instead of a fish or a scorpion instead of an egg. Do we want to win the lotto because of a dire need or because we just want to be rich? Perhaps, we already won not in the way we want, but in different ways. If we do not find what we seek, perhaps we are looking the wrong way or we do not really know what we are looking for. If the door does not open even when we knock on it, perhaps we are knocking on the wrong door.
God is OMNISCIENT. He knows what is best for each one of us. He always answers our prayers according to his wisdom. He gives us what we ask for if we just open our eyes to the blessings we receive from him every day. If we really seek him, we will find him. He is everywhere – not only in those he created but in the daily events of our life. He opens the door when we knock. Perhaps, we just did not notice that the door already opened.
Lord, teach us to deepen our faith and trust in you!
