Gospel Reading for May 10, 2026 – John 14: 15-21
EXTRAORDINARY PRIVILEGE
Jesus said to his disciples: “If you love me, you will keep my commandments. And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another Advocate to be with you always, the Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot accept, because it neither sees nor knows him. But you know him, because he remains with you, and will be in you. I will not leave you orphans; I will come to you. In a little while the world will no longer see me, but you will see me, because I live and you will live. On that day you will realize that I am in my Father and you are in me and I in you. Whoever has my commandments and observes them is the one who loves me. And whoever loves me will be loved by my Father, and I will love him and reveal myself to him.”

Jesus’ discourses are filled with reassurance that he will not leave the apostles, and that he will not leave us. Although we may no longer see him physically, he remains ever present. We continue to see him at work in our lives. Whenever we follow his commandments, we experience his presence, because “you are in me and I in you.” Imagine that—through Jesus, we ordinary creatures are allowed to share in the very life of the Divine. God grants us the EXTRAORDINARY PRIVILEGE of entering into his realm.
Indeed, Jesus’ coming into the world is such a tremendous blessing because he revealed to us who the Father truly is—not as many had wrongly imagined him to be. There is always such relief and joy in discovering that someone we once misunderstood is, in truth, infinitely good.
Lord Jesus, thank you for revealing the Father to us!
