Nagbabala ang Diocese of Novaliches laban sa mga taong ginagamit ang litrato ng mga Pastol ng Simbahan ng walang pahintulot upang makapanglinlang at makapagnakaw ng pera sa kapwa.
Naranasan ni Father Joel Saballa, deputy-executive director ng Caritas Novaliches at Veritas anchor ang identity thief sa FB matapos gamitin ng mga scammer ang kanyang litrato upang makapanghingi ng pera.
“My experience with identity theft—where scammers used my photo and spread lies about my hospitalization to exploit donors—left me feeling violated and betrayed. It taught me that even small details, like a single picture, can be twisted into weapons of deceit,” ayon sa mensaheng ipinadala ni Fr.Saballa sa Radyo Veritas.
Nanawagan ang Pari sa mamamayan lalu na sa mga biktima ng identity thief na kaagad na magsumbong sa mga kinauukulan. Pinag-iingat din ni Father Saballa ang mga Pilipino sa pagbabahagi ng personal na larawan, impormasyon at mga ideya upang hindi manakaw online.
“Learning lesson: Report scams to platforms and authorities. Share your story to warn others. Fraud thrives in silence—break the cycle by speaking up. Protect your peace, but let this fuel vigilance, not fear. In a world where lies wear masks of truth, wisdom and solidarity are our strongest shields. Be knowlegable; 1.Guard Your Digital Footprint: Limit public access to personal photos/info—what’s shared online can be stolen; 2.Verify Urgent Appeals: If someone claims you or a loved one is in crisis, confirm directly through trusted channels before acting. (Thanks to my friends they alerted me when they saw the picture online),” ayon pa sa mensahe ng Pari ng ipinadala sa Radyo Veritas.
Pinaalalahanan din ng pari ang mamamayan na kumpirmahin muna sa mga parokya kung totoong nagsasagawa ito ng fund raising.
“3.Skepticism Saves: Question emotional, urgent donation requests. True need allows time for verification; 4.Educate Vulnerable Groups: Warn elders or less tech-savvy loved ones about these scams—awareness is armor,” ayon pa sa mensahe ni Fr.Saballa.
