POWERFUL MANIFESTATION
As Jesus got into a boat, his disciples followed him. Suddenly a violent storm came up on the sea, so that the boat was being swamped by waves; but he was asleep. They came and woke him, saying, “Lord, save us! We are perishing!” He said to them, “Why are you terrified, O you of little faith?” Then he got up, rebuked the winds and the sea, and there was great calm. The men were amazed and said, “What sort of man is this, whom even the winds and the sea obey?”

It is not surprising that even the winds and the sea obey Jesus. He is the Lord of all creation, the Son of the living God. It is no wonder, then, that he could sleep peacefully in the midst of a violent storm while his disciples trembled with fear.
This miracle is yet another POWERFUL MANIFESTATION that Jesus is truly the Son of God. Once again, he draws attention to the importance of faith. Before calming the storm, he first asked his disciples, “Why are you terrified, O you of little faith?” Their greatest need was not merely to be rescued from the storm, but to grow in trust in the One who was with them.
The same is true for us. Storms will inevitably come into our lives in the form of trials, difficulties, and uncertainties. Yet if we place our faith in Jesus, we can face them with confidence, knowing that the Lord who commands the wind and the sea also holds our lives in his loving hands. He may not always calm the storm immediately, but he will always give us the grace and strength to endure it.
Lord Jesus, we believe that you are Lord over all creation and that nothing is impossible for you. Strengthen our faith, calm the storms within our hearts, and help us to entrust all our fears and troubles to you!
