Gospel Reading for April 13 – Luke 22: 14 – 23: 56

RIGHT TIME

Palm Sunday of the Lord’s Passion

Included in the Gospel Reading for today is the Last Supper of our Lord with his disciples where he expressed his desire to eat the Passover meal with them before he suffers. Probably because it would be his last meal with them, it was the RIGHT TIME to institute the Sacrament of the Holy Eucharist which will be handed over to all who would be followers of Christ through his disciples. The ever thoughtful Jesus made sure he will FOREVER BE WITH US on earth even after going back to the Father. Through the Holy Spirit, the bread and wine becomes his body and blood for us to partake of whenever we celebrate the Eucharist, enabling us to be his loyal followers and sharers of God’s Love as one family of God.

Today, as we celebrate Palm Sunday, in Luke 19: 28-40 the whole multitude of his disciples will be praising God aloud with joy for all the mighty deeds they had seen. They will be proclaiming: “Blessed is the king who comes in the name of the Lord. Peace in heaven and glory in the highest.” They even spread their cloaks on the road where the donkey of Jesus would trod. But alas, the whole multitude of his disciples was no match for those who would later be shouting, “Crucify him! Crucify him!” until Pilate was pressured to give in to their demands. And thus, Jesus had to endure excruciating pain, yet was obedient to the Father up to his death on the cross.

How do we live our lives as Christians? Do we try our very best to be his loyal followers or are we among those who will sing high praises to God at every Eucharist but will be shouting “Crucify him!” when making everyday decisions in life?

We pray that the Holy Spirit give us the courage and strength to continue being loyal followers of Jesus!
