Gospel Reading for May 28, 2024 – Mark 10: 28-31
SAVED LIFE
Peter began to say to Jesus, “We have given up everything and followed you.” Jesus said, “Amen, I say to you, there is no one who has given up house or brothers or sisters or mother or father or children or lands for my sake and for the sake of the Gospel who will not receive a hundred times more now in this present age: houses and brothers and sisters and mothers and children and lands, with persecutions, and eternal life in the age to come. But many that are first will be last, and the last will be first.”

What was Peter trying to say to Jesus? Was he complaining, regretting, or plainly stating a fact? Whatever it was, Jesus is telling us that to give up everything and follow him is to gain a hundred times more in this present age. Take note, Jesus said – IN THIS PRESENT AGE, not in eternal life. Everyone in his right mind, who will seriously and sincerely study what Jesus taught in the gospels, would understand what the “hundred times” mean. A life that follows Jesus’ teachings is a SAVED LIFE. It is not a life bereft of problems, challenges, difficulties, suffering and pain, but it is a life that will ensure that all these things will pass, after which, we move on to eternity where everything will be perfect and nothing else to gain.
Let us ponder on this song by Fr. Cielo Almazan, OFM, LORD, HERE I AM –
Lord, here I am
to answer Your call.
Lord, here I am
to serve and love You.
I have left everything
just to follow You.
Here is my heart;
Here is my mind;
Here is my soul;
Here is my wholeself;
I am for You and You alone.
