Gospel Reading for February 05, 2025 – Mark 6: 1-6
SIZE OF OUR HEART
Jesus departed from there and came to his native place, accompanied by his disciples. When the sabbath came he began to teach in the synagogue, and many who heard him were astonished. They said, “Where did this man get all this? What kind of wisdom has been given him? What mighty deeds are wrought by his hands! Is he not the carpenter, the son of Mary, and the brother of James and Joseph and Judas and Simon? And are not his sisters here with us?” And they took offense at him. Jesus said to them, “A prophet is not without honor except in his native place and among his own kin and in his own house.” So he was not able to perform any mighty deed there, apart from curing a few sick people by laying his hands on them. He was amazed at their lack of faith.

A lot of us who have the tendency to look down on others, especially if they are wanting economically and educationally, are usually not that confident about ourselves. We look down on them because we want to be looked up to. There should be someone weaker, someone less, so we may look strong and better. Having a competitive attitude in life is very stressful because there will always be someone better than us.
Instead of wasting time looking down on others, why don’t we just collaborate with them and be able to contribute something for the betterment of humanity? This way, we will also become better.
And, those of us who are looked down upon by others do not have to feel bad, because we all are children of God, and in the eyes of our Father, the size of our finances, the size of our achievements, the size of our houses, do not matter. What matters to him is the SIZE OF OUR HEART: How much we have loved and who we have loved.
Lord Jesus, help us give importance to what is essential for us to gain eternal life!
