Gospel Reading for February 12, 2024 – Mark 8: 11-13

TUNNEL VISION

The Pharisees came forward and began to argue with Jesus, seeking from him a sign from heaven to test him. He sighed from the depth of his spirt and said, “Why does this generation seek a sign? Amen, I say to you, no sign will be given to this generation.” Then he left them, got into the boat again, and went off to the other shore.

————

The Pharisees were so exasperating indeed, for Jesus to walk out. The big problem about seeking for a sign is when those seeking it are TOO BLIND to see it. There were so many signs, and not just ordinary signs from heaven. Remember, when John the Baptist sent his messengers to Jesus to ask if he was the one expected to come, Jesus said to them: “Go and report to John what you have seen and heard: the blind receive sight, the lame walk, the lepers are cleansed, and the deaf hear, the dead are raised up, the poor have the gospel preached to them.” (Luke 7: 22)
A lot of us are like the Pharisees. We have TUNNEL VISION or a lack of perspective caused by an intense focus on one object and being closed off to other viewpoints.” The Pharisees were too much focused on their interpretation of the Mosaic Law, that they did not hear or see whatever Jesus taught or did. If we live our lives this way, we will not be able to make the right decisions in life.

Open our eyes and ears Lord, we want to see you and hear you all the days of our life!
