Gospel Reading for July 16, 2025 – Matthew 11: 25-27

OVERLEARNED

At that time Jesus exclaimed: “I give praise to you, Father, Lord of heaven and earth, for although you have hidden these things from the wise and the learned you have revealed them to the childlike. Yes, Father, such has been your gracious will. All things have been handed over to me by my Father. No one knows the Son except the Father,and no one knows the Father except the Son and anyone to whom the Son wishes to reveal him.”

————

One does not need to be wise and learned to be able to fathom God’s greatness. As a matter of fact, a lot of those who challenge the existence of God are the bright ones in school, or shall we say, the OVERLEARNED. This is because the organ that functions most is the brain and not the heart. One may be an expert in dogmas, but it is not an assurance that he/she is an expert when it comes to relationship with God. This is because for spiritual matters, the heart takes precedence over the brain. As is said, where reason ends, faith begins. It is only when we are CHILDLIKE and have open hearts and minds, that God can reveal himself to us. By deepening our relationship with Jesus, we will be able to access our Father in heaven.

Today we celebrate the Feast of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel. We remember how Mary always kept things she could not understand, in her heart, and that was how she kept her faith in God steadfast.
Let us ponder on this song written by Hal David and Burt Bacharach, and one of the songs from the Movie – The Lost Horizon, WHERE KNOWLEDGE ENDS (FAITH BEGINS) –

There are things that you see;
Other things you feel;
Feelings can’t be seen
yet we never doubt they are real.
When you search for the truth
don’t just use your eyes.
Look inside yourself
that is where the truth always lies.
Where knowledge ends faith begins,
and it shines like a star.
Till your heart fills with
hope and with love
From the day that we’re born,
we start asking why.
There is more to life,
more than it would seem meets the eye.
When you’ve learned all you can
there’s still more to know.
Things you can not prove
so you just believe they are so.
Where knowledge ends faith begins,
and it shines like a star.
Till your heart fills with hope and with love,
I have looked in your heart.
I have faith in you.
