Gospel Reading for October 23, 2025 – Luke 12: 49-53
HOPE IS NOT LOST
Jesus said to his disciples: “I have come to set the earth on fire, and how I wish it were already blazing! There is a baptism with which I must be baptized, and how great is my anguish until it is accomplished! Do you think that I have come to establish peace on the earth? No, I tell you, but rather division. From now on a household of five will be divided, three against two and two against three; a father will be divided against his son and a son against his father, a mother against her daughter and a daughter against her mother, a mother-in law against her daughter-in-law and a daughter-in-law against her mother-in-law.”

The teachings of Jesus will really cause DIVISION in a family where values and practices are not aligned with it. This is especially true if these values and practices have already become the NORM. When a member of this family gets to know Jesus and his teachings, and embraces it, it will be the start of trouble. It will cause a fire in that family. But when the fire is over, and what remains are the ashes of these values and practices, it will be the time to rise up from the ashes. As stated in Psalm 113: 7, “He raises the poor from the dust and lifts the needy from the ash heap.” Then, by God’s power, the family will be lifted up and gain the dignity it has lost. The Holy Spirit, will make it new again.
With intense prayer and faithful witnessing of the person of Christ thru living out his teachings of love and sacrifice, HOPE IS NOT LOST for those of us who are experiencing this in our family.
Lord Jesus, may the members of our family be able to understand and embrace your teachings which will always be beneficial for all of us!
