Gospel Reading for May 16, 2026 – John 16: 23b-28
RECONNECTED
Jesus said to his disciples: “Amen, amen, I say to you, whatever you ask the Father in my name he will give you. Until now you have not asked anything in my name; ask and you will receive, so that your joy may be complete. “I have told you this in figures of speech. The hour is coming when I will no longer speak to you in figures but I will tell you clearly about the Father. On that day you will ask in my name, and I do not tell you that I will ask the Father for you. For the Father himself loves you, because you have loved me and have come to believe that I came from God. I came from the Father and have come into the world. Now I am leaving the world and going back to the Father.”

Jesus is the ONE and ONLY bridge to the Father. Without him, there would have been no way for humanity to return to the Father after Adam and Eve chose to turn away from him. As a consequence of that choice, humanity lost the most precious gift anyone could ever attain—eternal communion and bliss with the Father.
Yet the Father, who is infinite in love and mercy, did not abandon us. He sent his only begotten Son so that whoever believes in him and follows him may find true peace and happiness even amid the chaos of this world, and ultimately attain eternal life beyond this earthly existence.
Jesus RECONNECTED us to the Father—the source of all goodness and every blessing we could ever need in life. Whatever we ask of the Father, we can ask through him, with him, and in him.
If we Christians could truly assimilate this immense act of the Father’s love, made visible and concrete through Jesus, we would live lives overflowing with GRATITUDE. We would not remain indifferent to those in need around us. We would not ignore injustice, violence, immorality, and all the destructive acts that wound humanity, harm God’s creation, and damage the world entrusted to us. Instead, each day would become an opportunity to give back to God through acts of love, sharing with others the blessings we ourselves have received.
Lord Jesus, help us make our lives vibrant with love for you by generously sharing ourselves with all those you have created!
