Itinuturing na pagtraydor sa taumbayan ang pagbasura ng Commission on Appointments sa ad interim appointment ni Gina Lopez bilang kalihim ng Department of Environment and Natural Resources o DENR.
Ayon kay Lipa Archbishop Emeritus Ramon Arguelles, nag-traydor ang mga mambabatas sa Diyos at sa taongbayan matapos tanggihan ang kumpirmasyon ni Lopez.
Iginiit ng Arsobispo na dahil sa pansariling interes ng mga umaabuso sa kapaligiran ay tinalikdan ng mga nasa kapangyarihan ang kinabukasan ng mga mahihirap at ang pangangalaga sa kapaligiran na siyang isinusulong ni Lopez.
“The refusal of the lawmakers to entrust to Ms Gina Lopez the care of our environment unmasks the kind of leaders we have. They betray God and our people because of self interest and because of the interest of the abusive few, God’s creation and the environment meant for the common good is further exposed to degradation.” Giit ni Archbishop Arguelles.
Umaapela din ang Arsobispo kay Pangulong Rodrigo Duterte na pag-aralan ang naging desisyon ng mga mambabatas sapagkat ang pagsira sa kalikasan ay hindi naiiba sa pagkasirang idinudulot ng ilegal na droga sa buhay ng mga tao.

Kaugnay nito, nababahala si Surigao Bishop Antonieto Cabajog para sa kanyang mga kababayan dahil magpapatuloy ang labis na pagmimina sa lalawigan matapos na hindi maaprubahan ang appointment ni Lopez.
“She is a great loss! The law should serve the common good. It’s the spirit of the law we should pursue not the law itself for its own sake. Surigao has more to offer in terms of Eco-tourism” mensahe ni Bishop Cabajog.
Magugunitang suportado ng Simbahang katolika ang kumpirmasyon ni Lopez dahil sa pagpapamalas nito ng pagkalinga sa kalikasan na siya rin naman isinusulong ng Simbahan.
