Dismayado ang mga kinatawan ng Simbahang Katolika matapos hindi aprubahan ng Commission on Appointments ang pagkakatalaga bilang kalihim ng Department of Environment and Natural Resources ni Gina Lopez.
Ayon kay Rev. Fr. Augustus Calubaquib, Social Action Director ng Archdiocese of Tuguegarao, malinaw na inuna ng mga mambabatas ang personal na interes ng iilan kumpara sa interes ng taongbayan.
“It’s clear that selfish interest won over the interest of the people to be protected, that is how politics run our country but it doesn’t mean we stop. We continue protecting the environment because it’s our mandate to do so.” giit ni Fr. Calubaquib.
Ganito rin ang paniniwala ni Diocese of Calbayog Social Action Director Rev. Fr Guillermo Alorro matapos na ma-diskwalipika si Lopez.
“It shows that business interests of a few greedy mining companies is over and above ruled supreme than protecting and preserving our natural environment, thus doing good for the people and protecting their basic right to live a descent life is a misnomer nowadays.” mensahe ni Fr. Alorro sa Radyo Veritas.
Hindi naman ikinagulat ni Tandag Social Action Director Rev. Fr. Antonio Galela ang desisyon ng C-A dahil na rin sa kaugnayan ng ilang mambabatas sa industriya ng pagmimina.
“It was expected since some of the members of CA have ties with the mining companies.” paniwala ni Fr. Galela
Nababahala naman si Bacolod Social Action Director Rev. Fr. Ernie Larida sa kahihinatnan ng desisyon ng C-A sa mga mahihirap habang tiniyak ni Prelatura ng Infanta Social Action Director Rev. Fr. Israel Gabriel na hindi nito matitinag ang pagkilos ng Simbahan para sa kalikasan.
“It’s unfair for the people especially for the poor who always victims of mining companies, their lives and livelihood” ani Fr. Larida ng Bacolod, Negros Occidental. “She is the right person for the job. She has the heart needed to save our mother earth. So sad but mass action must be maintained on the ground” pahayag ni Fr. Gabriel.
Itinuturing naman ni Caritas Manila executive director Father Anton CT Pascual si Lopez na simbolo ng krusada ng mamamayan para protektahan at pangalagaan ang kalikasan.

Magugunitang dahil sa botong 16-8, hindi kinatigan ng C-A ang pagkakatalaga kay Lopez bilang kalihim ng kagawaran sa kalikasan
