Magbibigay ng retreat ang kanyang Kabunyian Manila Archbishop Luis Antonio Cardinal Tagle sa mga Obispo ng Estados Unidos sa 2016 special assembly of the United States Conference of the Catholic Bishops o UCCB sa ika-13 hanggang ika-17 ng Hunyo na gaganapin sa Diocese of Orange sa California.
Ayon kay Bishop John Barres, chairman ng USCCB special assembly planning committee, ang taunang pagtitipon ng mga Obsipo ng Amerika ay nakasentro sa temang ‘The Bishops as Missionary Leader for the Human Family’ na siyang tutukan ni Cardinal Tagle sa pagbibigay ng araw-araw na pagninilay maging sa homily sa idaraos na banal na misa.
“Cardinal Tagle was invited to conduct this year’s Special Assembly by Archbishop Joseph E. Kurtz, President of the USCCB. According to Bishop John O. Barres of Allentown, Chairman of the USCCB Special Assembly Planning Committee, the bishops of the United States gather in special assembly every third year in June. “All usual public business otherwise associated with plenary assemblies is dispensed with so that the members may engage in a dedicated time of spiritual retreat, prayerful reflection and fraternal support. The spiritual director serves as the central figure of the assembly, delivering daily reflections and homilies on a theme central to the episcopal ministry.”bahagi ng mensahe ni Bishop Barres
Inihayag ni Bishop Barres na bibigyan pansin sa assembly ang tunay na tungkulin ng simbahan upang alalayan ang mahihirap, mga sugatan sa lipunan at mga mananampalatayang nasa krisis na siyang pinabibigyang pansin ng Santo Papa.
“The overall theme of the special assembly is “The Bishops as Missionary Leader for the Human Family.” Bishop Barres said the theme “gives us the opportunity not only to distill some of the richness of the Synods on the Family and the World Meeting of Families but also to address Pope Francis’ emphasis on our role in ministering to the poor, the wounded and those in crisis.”
Binigyang diin ni Bishop Barres na napili nilang Spiritual Director si Cardinal Tagle dahil sa kanyang malawak na pastoral experience at ang kanyang talento sa pagkakaroon ng masiglang komunikasyon at magaling na pamumuno sa Simbahang Katolika sa Pilipinas.
“The US bishops in inviting Cardinal Tagle cited his “wide-range of pastoral experiences, your gift for joyful communication and your courage as a Bishop leading the Church in the Philippines.”
Pinangunahan at dinaluhan ni Cardinal Tagle ang United Nation High Level Dialogue on Climate Change on Laudato Si bukod sa personal na pagtugon sa pangangailangan ng mga migrant refugee sa Nepal, Lebanon, Turkey bilang pangulo ng Caritas Internationalis.
