WE, TOO, CAN BE BEAUTIFUL BEFORE GOD
Jn. 8:51-59

When I was still a younger priest, around five years ago, I met a classmate in high school who made good in college and landed a good job in a big corporation.

However, he became a victim of severe intrigue and back-stabbing in the office, and he was subsequently dismissed in a very unfair manner. At that time his son was around seven years old. You see he married relatively young.

His own family was going through a rough time, too. The family business was on the verge of bankruptcy. His parents were blaming him for his troubles because he had gotten married early. His father was not predisposed to providing any help because he was not in favor of his wife.

This was a miserable time for him. It was such a terrible experience for him. His seven-year-old son was starting to feel the pain of not having money, of not having friends, of not having anything to eat. My classmate could not even leave the house because he had no money in his pocket to pay for the bus to look for a job.

One morning, this friend of mine woke up and there was a big heap of coins right on top of his study table. Right beside it was a broken piggy bank. And then with it was a letter from his seven-year-old son. A very simple letter, it said, “Daddy, here are the contents of my piggy bank. I believe in you.”

Even if he had no money, he had all the courage that he needed to be able to carry on because he knew that his son believed in him. This was the same faith, the same faithfulness that made Abraham so beautiful before God. Abraham not hesitating to offer his son Isaac in sacrifice to God.

This was the same faithfulness that made Jesus so beautiful before the Father.

We, too, can be beautiful like Abraham. We, too, can be beautiful in the eyes of God like Jesus. We, too, should say, “Father, no matter what happens, I may have to suffer, I may have to be taken for granted, I may get sick and not be cured, I may be misunderstood by my loved ones, I may be abandoned by my own mother and my father, but Father, no matter what, I believe in You”
