Gospel Reading for September 12, 2025 – Luke 6: 39-42
ANSWERABLE
Jesus told his disciples a parable: “Can a blind person guide a blind person? Will not both fall into a pit? No disciple is superior to the teacher; but when fully trained, every disciple will be like his teacher. Why do you notice the splinter in your brother’s eye, but do not perceive the wooden beam in your own? How can you say to your brother, ‘Brother, let me remove that splinter in your eye,’ when you do not even notice the wooden beam in your own eye? You hypocrite! Remove the wooden beam from your eye first; then you will see clearly to remove the splinter in your brother’s eye.”

In other words, a Christian is not meant to be the “judge” of others. God is THE ONLY JUDGE.
It is common experience for us to unconsciously project onto others the traits or feelings that we ourselves have. It is positive if it causes us to empathize with the sad plight of others. But it becomes negative when we attribute to others our own unacceptable traits as a defense mechanism to avoid self-awareness.
This is why it is important as Christians, to look at ourselves first when we see fault in others. They may be helping us see what we should see, and change what we have to change. Anyway, we are ANSWERABLE to God for what we ourselves do, and not for what others do.
Lord Jesus, teach us to strive to follow you by looking at ourselves and the things we have to change!
