Pagpapaala-ala para sa mga Pari at consecrated persons ang pagdiriwang ng simbahan ngayong taon bilang paghahanda sa 500-taon ng Kristiyanismo sa Pilipinas.
Ayon kay Cotabato Archbishop Orlando Cardinal Quevedo, ang “Year of the Parish and Consecrated Persons ay nagpapaalala sa bawat isa ng kanilang tungkulin sa pagsunod kay Kristo.
“A change of lifestyle and a change of mindset is needed. That is why the major pastoral priority is a renewed servant leadership. To renew ones old style, ones old mindset as a priest towards servanthood,” mensahe ni Cardinal Quevedo sa pagbubukas ng Year of the Parish and Consecrated Persons-Renewed Servant Leaders for the New Evangelization.
“What does it means, servant leadership? Well, they have to follow the way of the Lord who was a servant-leader. He was a leader by serving people. He said I came to serve rather than be served. And priests who are following high priesthood of Christ have to follow that way. That means humility, simplicity and it reminds us of the ‘church of the poor’. They have also to be humble, simple and poor and style. To be with people rather than above people. Not ambitioning for title or for positions,” pahayag ni Cardinal Quevedo.
Paliwanag pa ni Cardinal Quevedo, higit na kailangan sa ngayon ang pagkakaroon ng mga tagapaglingkod na makikinig sa kaniyang kawan.
“Will need the listening priest, the servant leader- priest rather than someone who dictates,” dagdag pa ni Cardinal Quevedo.
Ang Pilipinas ay binubuo ng higit sa 100 milyong populasyon kung saan may 86 na porsiyento ay pawang mga katoliko.
Sa tala ng 2015 Catholic directory ang Pilipinas ay may 10,707 diocesan at religious priest, habang umaabot din sa 19,000 ang mga religious at consecrated persons o yaong may panata ng pagtalima, karukhaan at kalinisan sa hindi pag-aasawa.
Una na ring idineklara ng Catholic Bishops Conference of the Philippines (CBCP) ang Year of the Clergy and Consecrated Persons para sa taong 2018 na nagsimula sa pagtatapos ng Year of the Parish: Communion of Communities.
