DAMAGE CONTROL

Jesus said to the crowds: “Come to me, all you who labor and are burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am meek and humble of heart; and you will find rest for yourselves. For my yoke is easy, and my burden light.”

————

A yoke is carved from wood and has to be rounded and smoothed to fit the shoulders of the person who will use it to carry heavy buckets of milk to make it easier to carry, therefore, less burdensome. Jesus was presumed to be a carpenter as Joseph was, which is perhaps the reason why he used this metaphor. If a yoke does not fit a person’s shoulder well, it will not serve its purpose of making carrying easy.

Following the teachings of Jesus will surely make life less burdensome for us. The teachings of the Son of God is perfect, simply because God the Father is our Creator, and therefore, knows the best DAMAGE CONTROL after the fall of man. It is only when we truly follow Jesus that life becomes less burdensome for us who have to deal with evil everyday of our lives. If we are to summarize Jesus’ teachings, the only way to fight evil is TO LOVE. We cannot fight evil with yet another evil. It will just exacerbate. When we love instead, it will eradicate evil not only around us but also within us. But, we need to be meek and humble of heart if we are to follow the teachings of Jesus.

Lord Jesus, whenever we are burdened and troubled in life, may we always come to you!
