Gospel Reading for 04 March 2025 – Mark 10: 28-31

ETERNAL BLISS

Peter began to say to Jesus, “We have given up everything and followed you.” Jesus said, “Amen, I say to you, there is no one who has given up house or brothers or sisters or mother or father or children or lands for my sake and for the sake of the Gospel who will not receive a hundred times more now in this present age: houses and brothers and sisters and mothers and children and lands, with persecutions, and eternal life in the age to come. But many that are first will be last, and the last will be first.”

————

Why did Peter say this to Jesus? Was he regretting that they left everything to follow Jesus? Or, was he just stating a fact? Whatever it was, Jesus’ response was simple: the rewards outnumber what was given up.

There may be those of us Christians who are thinking if it is worth giving up many things we wanted to do in life, but couldn’t do because they were contrary to Jesus’ teachings.
The teachings of Jesus, are the teachings of our Creator, who knows fully well what is good and not good for us. If we honestly ponder and look at the consequences of not following Jesus’ teachings, we will realize that they are worth giving up. Self-preservation is supposed to be a natural instinct of a person, so why destroy one’s self? It is as simple as following traffic rules in order to avoid getting into accidents and possibly losing our life. The 10 Commandments serve the same purpose. But, unlike traffic rules, following the 10 Commandments goes deeper. When we live our life according to the 10 Commandments, we are assured of ETERNAL BLISS! What more can we ask for in life?

Lord Jesus, help us follow you every step of the way!
