Radio Veritas is inviting the devotees of San Roque to visit his first class “ex ossibus” (from the bones) relic at Radio Veritas Chapel until August 17, 2016 his feast day.

San Roque was said to be born into an aristocratic family in Montpelier, France. At birth it was noted that he had a red cross-shaped birthmark on the left side of his chest. As a young child, he showed great devotion to God and the Blessed mother. At an early age his father and mother both died leaving him a large inheritance. He left his estate under the management of his uncle and set off on a pilgrimage to Rome.

At that time, Italy was stricken with a rampant disease. San Roque was said to cure many of this dreaded disease by praying for them and making the sign of the cross. During his travel, he too contracted the plague which was evident by an open sore on his leg. San Roque left the city and took refuge in a cave. |t was during this time when a dog trotted up to him with a large loaf of bread in its mouth every day. Incredibly, San Roque recovered.

In his return to Montpellier, his uncle did not recognize him and he was arrested as a spy and imprisoned, five years later he died on August 16, 1327. When his body was being washed for burial the townspeople recognized him by his birthmark.

San Roque is venerated as the protector against the plague and all contagious diseases. He is also known as the patron saint of dogs. We commemorate the death of this great follower of Christ on August 16th of each year.

The first class relic and image of San Roque and Saint Clare of Assisi as well as the reverend icon of Nuestra Seńora dela Soledad de Porta Vaga are open for public veneration from 6:00 am to 8:00 pm at the Our Lady of Veritas Chapel located at the second floor of Veritas Tower, 162 West Avenue cor EDSA in Quezon City.
